BETA Risk Management Authority (BETArma) is a joint powers authority in California, a public entity established as a risk pool that enables district, county, city, and nonprofit healthcare facilities to self-insure their liability and workers’ compensation claims by pooling risks among similar facilities. The JPA structure provides four distinct benefits:

  • Operated by and for its membership
  • Can meet the specific needs of the group and individual members
  • No federal or state income or premium taxes
  • Profits are returned to members or reinvested to ensure long-term rate stability
